HUMAN-cow embryos have been created in a world first at Newcastle University in England, hailed by the scientific community, but labelled "monstrous" by opponents. The embryos survived for three days and are intended to provide a limitless supply of stem cells to develop therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and spinal cord injuries, overcoming a worldwide shortfall in human embryos.

"monstrous"?? Is it monstrous to cure Alzheimer's? Parkinson's? Downs syndrome? I argue it would be monstrous NOT to.

"I cannot see that that respects human life or the dignity of human life." the Church... No, this type of research is the highest kind of respect and dignity of human life because it will give life to millions upon millions of people that would otherwise not have a chance.

"Human beings - or even almost human embryos - are not just things that you can use in a laboratory experiment. " - Catholic church...naturally... What is an "ALMOST human embryo"?

Why are we denying ourselves a key to the cure of so many HORRIBLE disorders?

I think their are two issues here to be "nervous" about: 1) if we can create cows, we can create humans - supposed to be God's work, not ours, and 2) can we customize new humans, thereby probably taking natural selection rules out of the "equation"? This could give rise to a new "weighted" average human being - could be good, could be bad. We should create the rules for our own natural selection before creating the being, and then we should make sure that our rules are as perfect as possible.

Item 1 above certainly seems like it would shake up most organized religions of the world. But that's my take on it. Maybe you guys in a different generation have a different viewpoint!
