Today, I saw a man try to steal a sandwich. Upon noticing the manager of the shop staring at him, he through the sandwich back in frustration and stormed out. First, how does he justify stealing in the first place? Second, his mannerisms were that of someone who did not feel as though they were stealing, but were being stolen from. Does he somehow feel he is entitled to that sandwich? Why? Because he is hungry? Even the wildest animal understands that he must work for his meal. No, his actions were all too human. What human quality allows him no shame in expecting something for free?

Sounds like that ever-troubling, hard to understand (for some of us) sense of entitlement!
